Sony's PlayStation Move motion control system was supposed to launch Sunday. But retailers nationwide began releasing the new video game controllers which is designed to give the Wii a run for its money to consumers Friday instead. "We got them early and we wanted consumers to be able to purchase them as soon as possible," said Al de Leon, a Sony spokesman. "Consumers will be able to find PlayStation Move today nationwide at retailers, for the most part." GameStop stores began selling the PlayStation Move at midnight launches last night. Meanwhile, Amazon is already taking orders for the peripheral.The PlayStation Move has a main wand called a Motion Controller and a second wand called the Navigation Controller. The Navigation Controller is an analog controller that you hold in your off-hand while your main hand is busy punching, moving your arms, shooting, or whatever. So, with the Navigation Controller you can very easily move your character (avatar) around for action games like Sports Champions, Lights Out, and other upcoming games. The Controllers are powered by rechargeable lithium ion batteries. The Navigation Controller communicates with the PlayStation via BlueTooth 2.0. It even includes the force-feedback rumble, like the DualShock 3. In addition, you can use a growing assortment of ps3 move motion controller attachments, such as rackets, boxing gloves, and shooting attachments.
Of course, the real question is: Should you buy it? We say yes. Check out Msnbc.com game editor Todd Kenreck's video review of the system here. He likes it, he really likes it. In fact, he thinks even hardcore gamers are going to like it and that's saying something. Though the ps3 move motion controller may look a lot like the Wii's motion controllers, the time we've spent with this new system has shown it to be considerably more accurate than Nintendo's motion controls and quite versatile. We've tried it out in both casual party games like "Sports Champions" and even forthcoming first-person shooters like " Killzone 3″ and found it works well and is fun to use all around. and another advangtage is the cheap video accessories. PlayStation Move is comprised of three parts:the PlayStation Eye camera (which has been available for some time), the Move motion controller (this is the wand with the bulb on the top) and the Move navigation controller (the device with the stick on it).
The PlayStation Eye, working in conjunction with the Move controller, makes for highly precise detection of your movements. That's because the camera not only tracks the lighted sphere on the top of the wand, but the wand itself is equipped with a three-axis gyroscope and a three-axis accelerometer to help it read motion. Meanwhile the camera, which includes a built-in microphone, allows for voice detection and for some interesting new gameplay elements such as the augmented reality you'll see in a game like "EyePet" .
